Hudhud impact: 18 killed in UP
Lucknow, Oct 15: Cyclone Hudhud might have been over but its impact still continues to haunt the nation. On Tuesday, the impact of the deadly cyclone which had made a landfall in Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and affected the eastern coast on October 12, was also felt in Uttar Pradesh where 18 people were killed while property and standing crops were damaged.

Sources in the state government said besides the death, many houses have crumbled in the eastern part of the state. Many areas of Lucknow were completely inundated, including the Charbagh railway station.

Meteorological officials said Lucknow witnessed a record rainfall on Tuesday. In terms of rainfall in a single day in October, the highest before Tuesday was 46.1 mm which was recorded on October 7, 2009. On Tuesday, Lucknow received 61.1 mm of rain. Gorakhpur recorded 142.1 mm of rainfall on Tuesday. Gutsy wind along with the heavy rain saw trees being uprooted and power connections snapped.

Allahabad and Varanasi also witnessed heavy downpour.

JP Gupta, regional Met director told IANS that the effect of Hudhud would slow down in the next two days. Met officials said the temperature in Lucknow would remain low over the next few days.
