Lucknow, Nov 12: BJP legislator Sangeet Som was released from the Muzaffarnagar district jail after he was granted bail by the Deoband Court on Tuesday.

Som was released and is on bail in two other cases rejistered against him in the Muzaffarnagar riots, which took place in September.

Som is accused of uploading a fake video that incited communal tension in Muzaffarnagar leading to one of the worst communal riots the region ever witnessed. The riots claimed 62 lives and left over 45,000 homeless.

Bail plea of another BJP MLA Suresh Rana would be heard on November 13 in a sessions court. Rana was also arrested for his alleged role in escalating the communal violence in Muzaffarnagar.

Muzaffarnagar however, continues to be on the boil with stray incidents of violence emerging every now and then.
