Bengal violence: BJP wants central team to visit state
The BJP called a strike in Basirhat sub-division on Thursday.The Left Front has also called a strike in the North 24 Parganas district.
The state leadership of the BJP also accused Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra of not responding to its call and informed Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh about it. Mitra, however, called back the BJP leaders but could not explain why repeated instances of violence are occurring in the state even after the Lok Sabha elections are over, said a report in Bengali daily Ei Samay.
State leaders of the BJP and CPI(M) visited the places in Sandeshkhali where the attacks took place and the frightened residents of those areas told them that TMC supporters were continuing to threaten them
Meanwhile, the president of Birbhum district BJP Dudhkumar Mondal threatened the TMC, saying if the latter's supporters set one house ablaze, the BJP would retaliate by setting all houses ablaze, said another Ei Samay report. It can be mentioned here that the TMC president of Birbhum Anubrata Mandal had used the same language to intimidate the opponents during last year's panchayat election in the state.
