Trinamool leader, father killed in Bengal
The incident took place in Bankura district.
"We found the bodies of Indpur Trinamool block president Bikash Dutta and his father Mukunda Dutta from a pond," Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar said.
"The bodies have been sent for post mortem. We have detained a few people for questioning," he said.
While the ruling Trinamool Congress blamed the the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the BJP for the murders, the opposition said the killings resulted from internal feud in the Trinamool.
Local Trinamool leader Arup Chakrabarty said activists of the CPI-M and the Bharatiya Janata Party had been terrorizing people.
"Bikash had been threatened several times by CPI-M and BJP members who have unleashed terror in the region. The murders are a result of that," he said.
Rubbishing Chakraborty's claims, CPI-M district president Amiya Patra blamed the Trinamool's internal feud for the murders. BJP leader Subhas Sarkar echoed the sentiment.
