Kolkata, April 28: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) retained control of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) besides emerging winner in 73 other civic bodies in West Bengal. [Mamata Banerjee dedicates victory to Rabindranath Tagore & common people]
Ninety-two civic bodies, including the KMC, went to polls in the state on April 18 and 25.
The results were seen as a major win for Mamata Banerjee's party, which has been battling major allegations of corruption in recent times.
The BJP, which saw an impressive rise in its vote-share in the 2014 Lok Sabha election in Bengal and was aspiring to make further inroads, did poorly in the civic polls. While it could not win any seat in the civic bodies in the rest of the state, its performance was equally disappointing in Kolkata.
The TMC increased its tally in KMC from 93 seats in 2010 to 115 seats this time. KMC has a total of 144 seats.
The Left Front managed to wrest control of the Siliguri and Jalpaiguri municipal bodies from the TMC and Congress, respectively.
