Kolkata, April 6: Residents of Dalkati village in Gopiballabhpur constituency in West Midnapore which went to polls on Monday (April 4) have accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of locking up a local tubewell which is one of their big hopes in the severe summer conditions, said a report published in Bengali daily Anandabazaar Patrika.

Reason: Most of the residents of the village reportedly voted against the TMC in the April 4 election, said the report. The tubewell has also been wrapped with a flag of the TMC, the report added.

In the scorching heat of nearly 40 degrees, this is how the establishment has allegedly taken the revenge. [81% turnout recorded in Phase 1A of Bengal polls]

Local residents said the tubewell, which was set up recently, was locked up on Tuesday, a day after the elections. Those who did it told the villagers that the government would not provide any more water to them since they have voted for the CPI(M) and BJP. The act has put the villagers in a great inconvenience, the report said.

A few villagers have spoken up on the issue but they were yet to inform the local administration about it fearing a retaliation from those who locked up the tubewell.
