Sexual Assault: What Justice AK Ganguly wrote in resignation letter

Kolkata, Jan 7: West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan on Tuesday, Jan 7 accepted former Supreme Court Judge AK Ganguly's resignation letter. Justice Ganguly resigned as chief of West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC) following an allegation of sexual assault.

In his resignation letter, Justice Ganguly wrote, "Allegations which are appearing against me in the media are unfounded and baseless."

"The purported recommendation to the Honourable President for my removal, in my opinion, are based on the grounds which are untenable and misconceived," he added.

He also said, "To obviate any further controversy and to ensure peace and happiness of the members of my family and having regard to the fact that I held high office of a judge and presently holding the post of chairman of WBHRC I have decided to resign. I make it clear that I have no rancour towards any of my detractors and I wish them well in life."

Justice Ganguly was accused of sexually assaulting a young law intern inside a hotel room in Delhi. Many people raised voice against him demanding his resignation as chief of WBHRC. Initially, he refused to quit but later changed his decision following cabinet's nod for presidential intervention.
