However, at the Elgin road residence of the former transport minister of West Bengal, the CBI team was made to wait and later told by his supporters that they would not be allowed to meet the leader.
The CBI team wanted to hand over the petition personally to Mitra, but ended up leaving it with the supporters. As per the rules ,a copy of a petition needs to be served on the respondent.
Mitra an accused in the Saradha scam was granted bail by the Alipore Sessions Court. He walked out after spending nearly 21 months in jail.
The CBI challenged the sessions court order in the Calcutta High Court.
In the petition, the CBI has said that Mitra is still a very influential man and also an inseparable part of the ruling party in West Bengal. Despite not being a minister in the current dispensation, he is influential and could influence the witnesses the CBI claimed while seeking to cancel the bail granted to him.
