Dev, a Bengali film superstar, is a fresher in politics and will take on CPI's Santosh Rana and Congress's Manas Bhuyian from Ghatal constituency in West Midnapore district of West Bengal. Dev said he has come to politics mainly to motivate the youth to take interest in politics. The nomination of Dev, who hails from Keshpur in West Midnapore district, is believed to be a master stroke by party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to divide the constituency, which is a stronghold of the Left.

Sources said Banerjee herself had asked Dev to apologise on the matter. However, the damage had already been done by then as the opposition took the actor-turned-politician apart.

But will Dev be able to impress his constituency by commenting the way he did during that interview?
