Kolkata, Nov 27: After West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged personalities from the creative world to take out a rally against alleged attack on Bengal and its culture, an initiative has been taken by three persons, two of whom have recently shifted base from the Left camp, to this direction.
The rally, which many have mocked as one in support of culprits, is set to take place on Friday.
On Monday, CM Banerjee took out a city-paralysing rally to protest against the CBI's action against her party leaders in connection to the ever-snowballing Saradha chit fund scam. Friday's rally is the second step of that protest action. On Monday, placards reading "We all are thieves. Arrest us" were displayed at the rally.
CM Banerjee asked the celebrities to bring out a rally even if apolitical
The rally of the intelligentsia and celebrities has, however, created confusion in the mind of many, even those considered close to the ruling party's camp. One actor, who was recently given a high position by the Trinamool government, asked what was the attack on Bengal's culture, Anandabazaar Patrika reported. Another actor said the interrogation of actor-director Aparna Sen over the Saradha scam is an example of the attack. But that was quite sometime ago, the counter question was raised.
Friday's rally is scheduled to be held between Nandan and Academy, considered the cultural hubs of the City of Joy.
But from Rabindranath Tagore's joining the protest against the partition of Bengal to the protest against Nandigram firing to Friday's protest against arresting the accused --- Bengal's cultural pride is definitely facing its biggest credibility crisis.
