Feeling the heat? Mamata Banerjee now woos former rebel MP Kabir Suman

Kolkata, Jan 16: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has requested former MP of her party Trinamool Congress (TMC) Kabir Suman to join her official team due to visit Bangladesh in some time.

According to a report published in Anandabazaar Patrika, though Suman did not confirm the report, the list of the names of the officials who will accompany Banerjee to Bangladesh features Suman, who was sidelined in the party because of her open criticism of the party leadership.

According to TMC sources, the party's leadership has been convinced by Suman's stand against the 'communal forces' as the ruling party in the state itself is at serious loggerheads with that at the Centre. Suman, who is a popular singer, has been critical of the BJP and morally backing the TMC.

Mamata Banerjee is perhaps convinced that the time has come to bridge the gap with Suman, a popular face from the cultural community, which has always been on the chief minister's radar.

The popularity of Kabir Suman's songs in Bangladesh is also considered another reason for wooing him ahead of the visit. Banerjee is scheduled to visit the neighbouring country ahead of the Mother Language Day celebrated on February 21 every year.

Names of industrialist Sanjeev Goenka, Harsh Neotia and other personalities like film producer Srikant Mohta and singers like Indranil Sen, Nachiketa and Soumitra Roy also feature in the chief minister's team.
