Kunal Ghosh's suicide bid: Mamata sets up probe committee
Kolkata, Nov 14: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said a committee headed by Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee would probe the alleged suicide attempt by Kunal Ghosh, the party's suspended MP, inside the Presidency Jail where he was lodged in connection to the Saradha chit fund scam. Banerjee said the superintendent of the jail, its doctor and the on-duty staff members would remain suspended till the enquiry gets over.
Media reports said Ghosh, who was admitted in the critical care unit of the SSKM Hospital, was stable and responding to the treatment. The man consumed over 50 sleeping pills, the suicide note recovered in the jail said, according to media reports.
Banerjee asked how Ghosh could consume so many sleeping pills. She questioned how the doctor should give him 15 sleeping pills and felt the reports might have been exaggerated, said a Zee News report.
The chief minister said Ghosh was chargesheeted in the scam but some people were playing politics over it.

Ghosh, a journalist-turned-politician, threatened in a Kolkata court on Monday that he would commit suicide if those involved in the scam were not arrested within three days, he would commit suicide. He was the chief of operations of the Saradha media group.
