Ready for US trip, Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan becomes 'late' on Kolkata Metro site

Kolkata, June 9: Once it was the pride of the entire nation. Now, it is setting examples of losing its face almost everyday. The latest addition to the list of goof-ups made by Kolkata Metro Rail authorities was known on Monday when it described renowned Sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan as 'late' in its website! A report in Anandabazar Patrika said.

The maestro, 69, is set to leave for the United States with his two sons, both also Sarod players, just a few days from now. How did he become 'late'?

According to the report, the Metro authorities were completely taken aback by the incident. Though they changed 'late' into 'Shri' by the evening, but the damage had already been done. The maestro's family was reportedly upset with such a blunder.

The photo of Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan with the misleading caption ('Late Amjad Ali Khan renowned Sarod Maestro had a Metro ride on 02.08.1987)was part of the gallery which the Metro authorities showcased to highlight the history of the country's oldest metro rail. The gallery also features photos of other late dignitaries who had taken a ride in Kolkata Metro, like former president Zail Singh, West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu, renowned film-maker Satyajit Ray.
