Jadavpur University brutality: Kolkata top cop's wife joins BJP to fight for women's rights
Flanked by BJP state president Rahul Sinha in the party headquarters, Sharmistha said, "I feel BJP is the only place where I can fight for the women's rights in the state."
She said in the present situation the women's rights were under threat.
Many students were arrested while a number of them were injured after policemen, including those in civilian dresses, lathicharged and assaulted students, including girls, in the wee hours of September 17 when they were staging a sit-in protest against the vice-chancellor demanding justice for a student of the university who was allegedly molested in a university hostel. The police freed the V-C after assaulting the students and the incident was condemned in the city and also in other parts of the country and abroad.
The city police commissioner later defended the police action, saying it was carried out with sympathy.
