Agartala, April 2: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly criticised the Leftist regime of Manik Sarkar at an election rally in Tripura on Tuesday. She said if the Left can be overthrown in West Bengal, it can also be toppled in the northeastern state. The Left is in power in Tripura continuosly for two decades. It was also in power there between 1978 and 1988.

Banerjee said the Left government in Tripura has failed to bring development in the state. She also slammed the Congress during her speech at Shantir Bazar subdivisional town in south Tripura district, about 100 kilometres from the state capital. She accused the Congress, CPI(M) and BJP of having an unholy alliance.

Banerjee said she arrived in car for TMC couldn't afford to hire a helicopter

The Trinamool Congress chief, who vowed to topple the CPI(M) from power in Tripura by 2018 when the state goes to assembly polls, reached the venue late as she left in a car from Tripura airport instead of helicopter. She later said in the rally that her party is not financially equipped to hire a helicopter while sources said the Pawan Hans helicopter which was supposed to take her was already hired by the state government's election department.

Banerjee said that Moon Moon Sen, the Bengali actress who has been fielded by her party from Bankura constituency in West Bengal would campaign for the party candidates fielded from Tripura.

Tripura West constituency, along with five constituencies in Assam, will go to the Lok Sabha election on April 7.
