The victim was the wife of a CPI(M) leader who fled from the village long ago after the TMC began to dominate.
The woman was allegedly fined Rs 12 lakh for having close links with the CPI(M) and was tortured when she refused to pay off. Her body was found hanging in a room inside her house. The police has started an unnatural death case. Twelve people were suspected but no arrest has been made so far.
The criminals had allegedly threatened and tortured a number of times
Local media reports said the husband and the brother-in-law of the victim had accused the police of taking no action in the case and also alleged that the local TMC leaders were threatening them. The husband also mentioned names of 12 TMC leaders in his letter to the police and suspected them to have gangraped and killed his wife.
