Keralite's organ to be airlifted to Chennai
Kochi, Aug 11: A new chapter is being added in to the history of organ transplant in Kerala.
The lungs and heart of a Keralite is going to be airlifted from Kochi.
The organs of H Pranav, a native of Kayamkulam will be donated to a hospital in Tamil Nadu.
Pranav was declared brain dead by doctors after a road accident.
The surgery at Lakeshore Hospital, Kochi which lasted four hours was over and organs are taken to Nedumbassery airport.
A chartered aircraft of Jet Airways is being used as the air ambulance.
Pranav's liver will be donated to a patient in Lakeshore Hospital.
His one kidney will be given to Amritha hospital and the other to Government Medical college.
His small intestine and eyes will also be donated.
In the meanwhile the procedures to transfer the organs are completed.
Authorities have imposed traffic restrictions in the National Highway from Nettor to Nedumbassery.
A medical team from Chennai Fortis Hospital will also be assisting the team in Kochi in airlifting organs to Tamil Nadu
