BJP has come down heavily on the ruling Samajwadi Party, blaming it for the long outages to avenge the party's defeat in the recently held Lok Sabha polls.
Kanpur district BJP president, Surendra Maithani said that Kanpur has five SP MLAs including two ministers in the state cabinet.
Inspite of this, city dwellers are facing 10 to 12 hours of loadshedding. Besides the bigger ones, small traders and shop-keepers are having difficulty in maintaining their business as there have been frequent blackouts during the evenings, which is the peak time for their business, Maithani said.
Kanpur ranks third in terms of contributing revenues to the UP exchequer after Ghaziabad and Noida. Yet, it has been lagging behind when it comes to the question of power supply. "What is the benefit of having two ministers from the city", BJP MLA Salil Bishnoi said urging them to resolve the crisis.
According to the local trade leaders, whenever they go to the Electricity officials, they only receive assurances.
As the power situation is worsening day by day, there have been protests in the several parts of the city.
Electricity officials had denied the criticism saying that due to the excessive demand, dozens of transformers are not functioning causing power cuts in some areas.
However, officials expressed hope that situation will be improve once the monsoon sets in.
