Jammu, Dec 23: Severe cold gripped Jammu on the eve of the results of the assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir. The day temperature saw a sharp fall in Jammu and state capital Srinagar while dense fog and cloudy weather disrupted air and train movement in the region on Monday.
The day temperature in Jammu went down by 8.4 degree below normal while that in state capital Srinagar fell by nearly 1.2 degree Celsius. People were forced to stay indoors due to the chilling cold.
Flights from Jammu to New Delhi and Mumbai were delayed by two-and-half hours while no flight could land at Jammu airport before 12.30 pm because of poor visibility. One flight between Jammu and Delhi was also cancelled. The helicopter service in the region was also affected.
Trains were also delayed in the state and timings of many of the delayed trains were rescheduled. Bus service between Jammu and cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar and others were also affected. Many accidents also took place in the last few days in the northern parts.
Kargil remained the coldest place with a minimum temperature of -9.2 degree Celsius while Leh registered a minimum temperature of -8.8 degree Celsius.
