According to media reports, followers of the spiritual leader tried to bribe the cops. Meanwhile, sources informed that a fax, which was addressed to Jodhpur Deputy Commissioner of Police AP Lamba, threatened him for carrying investigating against the self-styled godman.
Confirming the reports, Assistant Commissioner of Police Chanchal Mishra was quoted as saying, "Yes, our DCP was threatened." Lamba recently has claimed that Jodhpur Police had sufficient evidence against Asaram and had corroborated the statement of the 16-year-old girl.
The 72-year-old was arrested from his Indore ashram as he has been accused of sexually harassing the minor girl at a ashram near Jodhpur on Aug 15. The guru, however, overruled all allegations against him but accepted that he indeed had spent private time with the complainant.
Jodhpur DCP was threatened
According to the girl's statement, the septuagenarian called the girl inside his room in his ashram in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The self-styled godman allegedly had assaulted her for more than one hour. When the girl began screaming, Asaram allegedly had threatened her saying that he would kill her parents.
The complainant, in the FIR filed with the Jodhpur police, explained how she allegedly was assaulted by the spiritual leader who reportedly first switched off the light of his room and then started molesting her touching her private parts.
He also allegedly had tried to strip the girl. The girl, while speaking to media persons, was quoted as saying, "It was a big mistake. The day I met Asaram at his Jodhpur ashram was the worst day of my life."
A Rajasthan court on Wednesday, Sept 4 reserved its order on the bail plea of the spiritual guru. The court earlier on Tuesday put off the hearing till Wednesday.
