Rajasthan police files 1300 page chargesheet filed against Asaram

Asaram, who is in jail over charges of sexually assaulting a schoolgirl, has been accused of rape in a chargesheet submitted in Rajasthan court.

Asaram has been charged under Sections 342, 370 (4) 354 A, 376 (2), 506, 504 of IPC and Sections 5, 6 and 7 of POCSO. If these charges are prooved, there is a possibility of him getting a jail term of up to 10 years or even a live sentence.

The self styled godman running about 400 ashrams across India, was arrested in September over allegations that he sexually assaulted a minor in his ashram.

Asaram has also been accused of sexually assaulting two sisters in Gujarat. The Surat police are investigating the allegations of two sisters who allege that they were assaulted repeatedly by Asaram and his son Narayan Sai between 1997 and 2006.

Asaram's son has been evading the police for weeks. His aide has also been in the police custody for questioning.

His bail plea was rejected again earlier this month.
