New York, Aug 23: At least dozens of people are expected to join a parade in which all women will go topless. The 'topless parade" will be held in New York on today (Sunday, Aug 23).
With bare chest, women will parade on the roads of New York in order to celebrate annual GoTopless Day, flashing their breasts in the name of feminist liberation.
GoTopless, a women's rights group, organised the much controversial parade, which is scheduled to begin at 12:30 om (1630 GMT).
The women's rights group also campaigns for women to be able to go shirtless across the world.
Not only New York, but similar parade will be held at Venice Beach in Los Angeles, other US and European cities.
It is already legal for women to bare their breasts in public in America's biggest city, and police will seal off the route of the parade from Columbus Circle to Bryant Park, organizers said.
Speaking about the event,Rachel Jessee, the head of the women's rights group, was quoted as saying, "People should not feel that it needs to be a taboo to go topless.
"It's a human right, and women should be created equally, but a lot of people view it as something very sexual," added Jessee, who is also an actress, model and performer.
GoTopless believes its campaign has been given a shot in the arm by the 2014 comedy film "Free The Nipple" and celebrities such as Miley Cyrus flashing their breasts in public.
Ironically, the parade has been organised just days before the 95th anniversary of Women's Equality Day, when American women were given the rights to cast their votes.
