Georgia, Feb 16:In a horrifying incident, a woman had a miscarriage after she was brutally beaten by a policeman. According to Courthouse News, in a complaint filed by Kenya Harris, she was waiting in the police station for five hours to pick up her minor son who was arrested. After waiting for a long time, she informed officer Ryan Jetkins that she needs to return home to take care of her other children who were alone.
The lawsuit said,"Defendant Officer Jenkins stated that he did not appreciate the tone in which she was communicating with him, and further stated that if she continued he would take her head and ‘put it to the floor." When the mother still insisted that she needs to go, the officer decided to use force.
The lawsuit further stated,"Defendant Officer Jenkins, without provocation, grabbed plaintiff, who weighs less than one hundred twenty (120) pounds, by her neck and slammed her to the ground. Plaintiff momentarily blacked out and came to with defendant Officer Jenkins sitting on her back, and with his knee on her arm. Plaintiff was pregnant at the time."
She was later handcuffed and slammed against the wall, before being interrogated and beaten. Meanwhile, Harris sought medical attention, which was denied. Instead, she was charged with obstruction and had to spend a night in the Dougherty County Jail.
The Lawsuit further asserted that Harris lost her baby because of excessive force. Harris is seeking $50,000 plus punitive damages for excessive force, assault and battery and emotional distress.
