Woman found dead after being trapped in elevator for a month

Beijing, March 7: In a horrifying incident in China, a 43-year old mentally unstable woman was found dead in an apartment elevator. She is alleged to have been trapped in the same for a month. The incident took place in the northern city of Xi'an in China.

As per local authorities, the woman was trapped after maintenance workers from Shaanxi Kaiwen Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Company shut the power supply for servicing the malfunctioning elevator on Jan 30.

Thereafter, the workers left for the extended Chinese New Year and returned only to find the corpse on March 1.

According to reports, the lift walls were covered in desparate scratch marks made by the women.

Investigators said that the incident could have been avoided had the workers checked inside the elevator once before shutting the power. Two people in charge of the elevator company have been arrested and will be facing charges of involuntary manslaughter.

Meanwhile, people kept wondering how the woman could have gone missing for a month without anyone raising an alarm. To this, police said that the woman was suffering from mental illness after her divorce and was living alone, without any visitors.
