Woman falls off pier in Sydney while browsing Facebook on phone
The tourist was later rescued by police after she fell off a pier while browsingFacebook on her phone, officials said. The woman was walking along a bay in Melbourne on Monday night, browsing facebook. She got distracted by the feeds and fell off the pier into the chilly water, Victoria state police said.
A witness raised alarm and police rushed to the woman's help. "She was still out in the water lying on her back in a floating position because she told us later that she couldn't swim," senior constable Dean Kelly of the state water police told the Australian Broadcasting Corp.
The woman still had her mobile phone in her hand and the first thing she did after being rescued was to apologize for her stupidity.
"With Facebook, or social media in general as far as we're concerned, if you're anywhere near the water just pay attention," police said. "Especially if you can't swim."
Next time, remember these words before taking a stroll on busy roads or on a sea shore, while browsing Facebook.
