Why was the Komodo dragon Google's Doodle? Google Doodle celebrated 37 years of Komodo National Park, Indonesia. Google said that the park is famed for being the home to 5,700 Komodo dragons. Google said that the reptile has a flexible skull and are related to snakes.
The Komodo National Park is also home to 72 bird species including the cockatoo and the Timor deer which is also the dragon's favourite snack. The park also houses sea turtles,dolphins and several species of fish.
Why is the Komodo dragon Google's Doodle?
This is because of 37 years of the Komodo National Park and the conservation of the Komodo dragon. The park was declared as a World heritage site by UNESCO in 1991. The park was founded to preserve the dragon which is unique to the area.

What are Komodo dragons?
It is a large carnivorous reptile that is found in Indonesia. They are related to snakes and eat almost everything including human beings. The dragon is also known to eat smaller members of its own kind.

How much can they eat?
The Komodo dragon can consume 80 per cent of their body weight in a single meal. They eat deers, pigs and water buffalos too. The dragon is known to kill in a terrifying manner. It uses 50 strains of bacteria in its saliva to poison its prey's blood.

How big is the Komodo dragon?
The Komodo dragon weighs 149 kilograms and is ten feet tall. They can run up to 11 miles an hour and have replaceable teeth like the sharks. They are the heaviest lizards on the planet.

Is the Komodo dragon endangered?
There are around 6,000 dragons on the planet today. They are found on the islands of Komodi, Rinca, Flores and Gila Montang. The Komodo dragon has been labeled as an endangered species today for several reasons. They are lack of egg laying females, natural disaster and encroachment by humans into their space.
