Bengaluru, Feb 9: Robert Mugabe, the president of Zimbabwe who will turn 91 later this month, made the headlines recently after he misjudged his steps at the Harare airport and took a tumble while getting down from a podium after addressing his supporters.
Mugabe was returning from Ethiopia where he had been elected the chairman of the African Nation. His aides quickly ran to his rescue and he was whisked away in his waiting limousine.
Mugabe was seen walking uncomfortably down the steps before falling off. Twenty-seven security personnel were reportedly sacked following this incident. Even some of the media persons who shot the photo at that moment were asked to delete it. However, the picture of Mugabe's fall had already gone viral on the social media by then and users even made fun of it.
Mugabe has been serving as the president of Zimbabwe since 1987 and the country in southern Africa has seen serious economic hardships under his rule. He was the prime minister of the country for seven years before that.
