US to review diplomat detention

Washington, Dec 18:The United States has agreed to review the detention of Indian Diplomat Devyani Khobragade amid uproar back in India against the treatment meted out on her.

It has further added that it will look into intake procedures. Meanwhile leaders and top bureaucrat, outraged by the attitude of USA, said," Devyani deserves certain amount of respect as a diplomat and this is completely unacceptable."

While political parties too joined in condemning the act, Kamal Nath went to the extent of saying,"US should not think that we are a "Banana Republic". It is an old school of thought and does not work now. THings have changed and this is not how we expect being treated."

Tweets and blogs of celebrities and top government officials were flooded with reactions for the incident. Shashi Tharoor, for instance, said,"Maintaining diplomatic relations a two-way traffic and both the nations should respect each other."

Devyani has been charged for providing fraudulent visa documents for a babysitter and housekeeper at her home in New York. She has also been charged of underpaying the woman as per the American labour laws. She has also been charged of making the help work for over 40 hours. These charges against Devyani can culminate into 15 years in prison.
