UNICEF reports on disturbing violation of child rights globally
The latest UNICEF report says almost 50 million children from across the world have been displaced from their homes.
New Delhi, Nov 24: According to a latest report by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), almost 50 million children from across the world have been displaced from their homes, 28 million of them due to conflict.
The report adds an additional 250 million children live in countries affected by conflict, and nearly 385 million children live in extreme poverty.
The figures were released to mark Universal Children's Day on November 20.
UNICEF Executive Director, Anthony Lake, stressed that Universal Children's Day was more than a day to celebrate children.
"It should be seen as an annual opportunity to recommit towards protecting the rights of every child," added Lake.
"The health and soul of all societies depend not only on how these rights are recognised and acted upon but on this Children's Day, we must confront the uncomfortable truth that the rights of millions of children are being violated every day all over the world."
