Typhoon Halong kills 10 in Japan
The storm has caused heavy rainfall in the region. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the powerful storm was over the Sea of Japan (East Sea) on Monday morning. The officials have also warned of landslides, floods and possible tornadoes. The storm, reportedly, is headed towards eastern coast of Russia.
Halong had made landfall on the largest and most populous island Honshu on Saturday. The weather agency downgraded the typhoon to a tropical storm on Monday.
According to public broadcaster NHK, the storm and the heavy rainfall killed two people and injured 86 across the country. However, another leading daily Nikkei said as many as 10 were killed in the storm. The Nikkei report said that the body of an Iranian man was found in the northeast of Tokyo and bodies of two Japanese women were found in Sakai and Takamatsu, in the country's west.
The police haven't confirmed the number of deaths.
