Many news outlets described Trump's call to Sharif as something that may have upturned America's relationship with both India and Pakistan.
Trump's team however released a bland read out of the conversation in which it was said that the two leaders had a productive conversation about how the US and Pakistan will have a strong working relationship in future.
Further it stated that Trump was looking forward to a lasting relationship with Sharif.
A Trump advisor said that this rare read out was issued because of the flowery account of the conversation that was put out by Pakistan.
There was however no denial of the account put out by Pakistan.
Trump has been criticised for speaking out of turn.
The New Republic said Trump said that with one phone call, Trump may have upturned America's relationship with India and Pakistan.
India however maintained that it had seen only one side of the conversation.
"I will reserve my judgement. We have seen only one side of the conversation. And that conversation does talk about the US President-elect willing to resolve all outstanding issues of Pakistan. We believe that the most outstanding issue of the outstanding issues is Pakistan's continued support to terrorism. To that extent, we will welcome a dialogue between the US and Pakistan to resolve that issue, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.
