Toddler rescued after 14 hrs from car accident in river

Spain, March 9: An 18-month old baby girl was rescued after 14 hours of a car accident in the Utah river. Police say that the baby is in a stable but critical condition.

The girl was flown into the hospital after she was discovered by a fisherman, said Matt Johnson, Spanish Fork Police Department.

Lynn Jennifer Groesbeck, who was the girl's 25-year old mother, however died in the accident. Police suspect that the accident happened on Friday night at 10:30 pm when Groesbeck was returning home at Springville with her daughter.

In fact, a witness also testified that he heard a crashing sound, but observed nothing at that time. The car was discovered by a fisherman shortly after noon the next day when he saw vehicle submerged in an inverted position. Police, on arriving found the girl in her seat.

The car appears to have stuck a cement barrier before plunging into the river. However, the real cause of the crash is still not clear.
