Pak panchayat orders gangrape of widow for 'brother's crime'
According to reports, the victim F Bibi was gangraped by nine men "as a settlement" for her brother Ajmal's 'crime' of falling in love with a married woman in neighbourhood.
The woman was stripped on the orders of a panchayat (kangaroo court) in Radiwala about 80 kilometers from Muzaffargarh, Dawn News reported said.
Out of the total nine accused, six have been arrested including the panchayat leader.
The gangrape was ordered as punishment for her brother's crime.
According to a news report, victim said, "The panchayat declared that my brother had relations with a girl in a neighbouring home."
She quoted panchayat members as saying: "Your brother had dishonoured the girl of another family of the village, in return you should be dishonoured to ensure justice."
The shameful incident happened on January 24 in Mauza Rakh Tibba Sharqi, when a villager sought the formulation of a 40-member panchayat accusing Ajmal of having an affair with his wife.
Then, the panchayat leader sentenced Ajmal's sister to be raped by the men from the aggrieved party (family of rapists) 'as a settlement' for her brother 's alleged affair.
The accused even threatened the victim that they would kill her if she raised her voice against them.
