Pakistan alleges India of promoting arm race in South Asia
Islamabad, April 30: Blaming India for arm race in South Asaia, Pakistan says it has no intention to enter into any such race.
According to media reports, a spokesperson of the Pakistan's embassy in Washington has alleged that it is India which introduced nuclear weapons in South Asia.
"Pakistan was forced to develop a nuclear capability for self-defence. Pakistan has consistently declared that its nuclear weapons are for deterrence," said the spokesperson.
Speaking about terrorism and extremism, the spokesman said Pakistan is effectively fighting terrorism and its economy making good progress.
According to earlier report published in Dawn, Pakistan is ahead of India in the nuclear arms race by 10 atomic weapons. While India has 110 atomic weapons, Pakistan possesses 120.

Pakistan has, since 2002, remained at least 10 weapons ahead of India in the arms race. The last time Pakistan's arms were less than those possessed by India was in 1999 when both countries owned eight atomic weapons each.
