Nepal may face more earthquakes, says US Geological Survey centre
Washington, April 27: The US Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Centre has warned of more possible earthquakes in Nepal area, saying a thrust of one part of the Earth's crust went under another. [Follow updates of Nepal quake: Day 3]
The Centre said the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal on April 26 was caused since the Indian tectonic plate and Eurasian continental plate moved towards each other, creating a force below the earth. [India's Nepal policy has come of age]
Sources at the centre said the region will face more such earthquakes in the future because of the movement of the two continental plates. They, however, said that such occurrences could occur over long periods of time. [Soon after China-Pakistan bonhomie, India rushes to Nepal faster than ever]
Over 3,700 people were killed in Nepal earthquake, till the last reports came. The quake also caused massive damage to property in that country, including a couple of heritage sites. Almost 70 people were killed in India also.
