Navratri Special: What fasting Modi said to make Obama comfortable at lavish dinner

Washington, Sept 30: He had only warm water on the dinner table but he did not fail to make everyone comfortable present out there for the much awaited dinner at the White House. Barack Obama, who might have felt uncomfortable for some time as his prime guest did not have anything during dinner, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi told US President and others, "Please eat".

Following the protocol, Modi was served a plate on the dinner table, Modi drank warm water only. He also asked others not to feel embarrassed and continue with their normal dinner.

Who all were present at the dinner party?

Limited number of guests from both India and US side attended the dinner party.

List of guest from US side: Vice-President Joe Biden, Secretary of State William Burns, National Security Advisor Susan Rice, USAID's Rajiv Shah and five others.

List of guest from India side: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Indian Ambassador in Washington S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh among others.

What was the menu?

The menu comprised compressed avocados, micro basil, grapeseed oil, roti crisps, ginger tuille saffron basmati rice and mango creme brulee. Goat cheese and baby bell peppers along with Shafer Chardonnay 'Red Shoulder' 2010 wine was also served at the dinner.

Why Modi has been fasting during his maiden US trip?

Following the Navratri tradition, Modi has been fasting during his US trip. Modi has been observing Navratri fasts for last 40 years and this year it coincided with his five-day US visit but he is continuing with his fast despite a busy schedule.
