Nairobi, Sept 23: Kenyan authorities suspected that terror groups other then al-Shabaab could also be involved in the deadly attack in an upscale shopping mall here on Saturday. Sixty-eight people were killed while over 200 were injured in the deadliest attack that the African nation has witnessed since the 1998 US embassy bombings.

Al-Shabaab, a Somalia-based terror outfit having links with al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, the Kenyan security agencies came under serious criticism for the way they handled the disaster. The agencies had no prior information about the attacks and it took a long time for the specialised forces to reach the spot.

The local police initially prepared themselves for an armed robbery in the mall. The effort to flush out the terrorists, including a woman, was not over even after two days and the death toll was expected to rise more.

Presidential spokesperson Manoah Esipisu was reportedly defensive while giving interview to news channels over the gruesome incident that saw the death of many foreign nationals, including two Indians. He said the way of reacting to a terror attack is not always uniform.
