More and more Israeli soldiers killing themselves after Gaza strike, says report
The report says that Israeli Defense Forces soldiers have historically had a very high rate of suicides. It has taken a worse turn after the latest IDF military operation in Gaza, it says.
The Gaza strike began on July 8 2014. At least 1,767 Palestinians, including 431 minors, 200 women, died in the strike, which has been described as 'brutal'.
After a string of suicides, Israeli military police launched an investigation. Reportedly, three members of an elite military unit, Givati Brigade, involved in the Gaza ground operation, committed suicide recently. The soldiers committed suicide one by one after the Gaza operation ended.
Reportedly, the soldiers shot themselves near the Gaza border.
A senior military psychiatric specialist said the suicide rates among Israeli soldiers was lesser before the Gaza strike. Only eight soldiers having committed suicide last year, he said. But after the strike, the suicide rate saw a steep strike.
