Missing Malaysian plane: Maldivians report sighting a 'low-flying jet'
The Boeing 777 jet, carrying 239 passengers, went missing 10 days ago.
According to a Maldivian daily Haveeru, several residents of Kuda Huvadhoo claimed on Tuesday that they had seen a "low-flying jumbo jet" around 6:15am on March 8, said an India Today report.
Their description of the plane, white body with red stripes, matched the appearance of the Malaysian aircraft. Eyewitnesses from the Kuda Huvadhoo said that the plane was travelling North to the Southern tip of the Maldives.
"I've never seen a jet flying so low over our island before. We've seen seaplanes, but I'm sure that this was not one of those. I could even make out the doors on the plane clearly," an eyewitness told Haveeru.
"It's not just me. Several other residents have reported seeing the exact thing. Some people got out of their houses to see what was causing the tremendous noise too," he added.
Many investigators probing the case strongly believe that someone diverted the jet in a different direction.
