Washington, May 23: In Thailand, armed Thai soldiers patrol on a motorbike near the Democracy Monument in Bangkok. Thailand's ruling military on Friday summoned the entire ousted government and members of the politically influential family at the heart of the country's long-running conflict, a day after it seized control of this volatile Southeast Asian nation in a non-violent coup.

In Afghan, Afghanistan's National Army (ANA) soldiers walk at the site of a clash between insurgents and security forces at the Indian Consulate in Herat. Gunmen armed with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades attacked the Indian Consulate in western Afghanistan's Herat province Friday, an assault that injured no diplomatic staff, police said. Indian officials said there had been a threat against its diplomats in Afghanistan, but gave no other details.

In Turkey, riot police used water cannons and teargas to disperse people who were protesting the Soma mine disaster that killed 301 miners, in Istanbul.
