Finsbury Park attack: Every bit as sickening as other terror attacks, says PM Theresa May
The Prime Minister Theresa May has confirmed that counter-terrorism command has been called in after reports of a white van driving into pedestrians
Prime Minister Theresa May on Monday said the attack was "every bit as sickening" as other recent attacks in London. In today's attack, one person was killed and eight others injured after a van ploughed into worshippers outside a mosque in London.
Police declared it a terrorist incident within eight minutes, May added. The incident happened on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park.
Also, May paid tribute to the "extraordinary" people of London. She praised the way the public detained the attacker, just as the way others had tackled the attackers on London Bridge and the way the community had come together in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire.
Earlier, PM May has confirmed that counter-terrorism command has been called in after reports of a white van driving into pedestrians at about 12.20am on Monday, reports The Guardian.
Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, whose constituency includes Finsbury Park, has said he was "totally shocked".
One person has been arrested following the incident on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park, BBC reported.
Pro-Islamic State channels are reportedly using the incident in Finsbury Park, in which one person was killed and eight others injured outside a Mosque in North London, to incite Muslims, according to groups which monitor jihadists.
Today morning, officers were called at 12.20 BST and are at the scene with other emergency services, the Metropolitan Police said.
The driver of a white van that ploughed into pedestrians was pinned to the ground by onlookers after saying: "I want to kill Muslims," a witness has told the Guardian.
"We have sent a number of resources to an incident in Seven Sisters Road, " A London Ambulance Service spokesman said. London Ambulance Service said it had sent "a number of resources" to the scene.
Metropolitan police reiterated no other suspects in connection with incident.

Meanwhile, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) said a van "intentionally" ran over worshippers. Many of the victims are believed to have just left evening prayers after breaking the Ramadan fast. After the attack, the Islamic centre and mosque has released a statement, appealing for calm.
