Malaysia opposition leader Anwar close relative of MH370 captain

Anwar Ibrahim
Kuala Lumpur, March 18: Even when media and investigators were speculating whether his political inclination led to the disappearance of the MH370, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim admitted in court that he was a relative of Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah. He is infact related to Ibrahim's son-in-law.

Ibrahim said,"I am not denying that he (Zaharie) is related to one of my in-laws and that I have met him on several occasions. In fact, he is a close friend of (PKR supreme council member and Subang MP) R. Sivarasa, as we said before."

However dismissing reports by a British tabloid that the captain was a fanatic, Anwar was quoted as saying,"We did not have personal contact, but he was my follower on Twitter."

Moreover, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said that the allegations were baseless and false. The Tabloid had said that Zaharie, upset with the leader's trial, commanded the doomed flight for several hours.
