Indian Embassy issues demarche, seeks speedy probe into the killing of Indian engineer
Kuchibhotla was shot by Adam Purinton, 51, who hurled racial slurs at the Indian engineer and yelled, "Get out of my country".
Washington, Feb 28: The Indian Embassy in the US has issued a demarche to State Department and called for a speedy probe in the killing of an Indian engineer, Srinivas Kuchibhotla, who was killed in Kansas in a possible case of hate crime after a man shot at him.
This comes after Kuchibhotla was shot by Adam Purinton, 51, who hurled racial slurs at the Indian engineer and yelled, "Get out of my country" before shooting him. The incident has raised concerns among many Indians living in US about possible violence against foreign workers.
Kansas Senator Jerry Morgan met Indian Ambassador Navtej Sarna and expressed his condolences over the death of Kuchibhotla.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Monday told reporters that "early reports coming from Kansas are equally disturbing".
Even as Indian Embassy in US issued a demarche to State Department on killing of an Indian engineer calling for a speedy probe, another incident has been reported where Indian man's house has been trashed with poop, eggs and hate messages in Southern Colorado and racial slurs aimed at him.
