Indian assaulted in Melbourne, in coma

Melbourne, Dec 30: A 20-year old student from India, Manrajwinder Singh, was critically assaulted by a group of men who seemed to be of African descent. Attacked by thugs and looted, the incident happened when he was sitting with his three friends at the footpath on the eastern side of Princess Bridge.

The eight offenders headed toward the group and assaulted him and his friend and stole his mobile phone and fled. Singh was badly hit by a stick, while his friend was hit on the face.

While Singh was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was treated for severe head injuries, his friend was treated on site. The victim was in Melbourne to study accounts.

Meanwhile, CCTV footage procured from the street suggest eight men and a woman behind the attacks.

Detective senior constable Adam Foley said,"It was just an opportunistic target from the offenders, they've just seen them there and approached them and done what they've done."

The victim's brother now seeks justice.The victim is in coma now.
