Washington, Jan 17: Former US astronaut Eugene Cernan, the last man to set foot on the moon, died on Monday aged 82, following ongoing health issues.

About Eugene Cernan:

Eugene Cernan, the American who travelled into space three times, and became the 11th person to walk on the moon and the last to leave his footprints on its surface as commander of Apollo 17.

Eugene Cernan's early life:

Eugene Cernan was born on March 14, 1934, attended Purdue University where received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1956. He then became a fighter pilot before joining NASA in 1963.

Eugene Cernan retirement life:

Eugene Cernan retired from NASA in 1976 later and went into private business.

Remembering Eugene Cernan:

Eugen Cernan, a Captain in the U.S. Navy, left his mark on the history of exploration by flying three times in space, twice to the moon. He also holds the distinction of being the second American to walk in space and the last human to leave his footprints on moon.
