While the first tremor was felt on just after midnight on Monday, several aftershocks were felt which sent panic waves across.
There was damage reported in several areas whereas only two people were reportedly killed.The South Island has been witnessing several aftershocks too. Several people were moved to safety and many residents were seen stoking up basic supplies.
