Ice Bucket Challenge raises $40 million
Washington, Aug 22: The 'Ice Bucket Challenge' (IBC) that leaves you with chills for a while after you've dumped a bucket of iced water, has managed to raise $40 million so far.

The IBC that has taken the social network and celebs across the world by storm is an awareness and fund raising campaign that contributes to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) Association in the US. The disease is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Reports suggest that the donations to the cause has grown rapidly after celebrities and politicians took up the challenge. The ALS Association said that by aug 21 it had received $41.8 million for the cause.

The disease that affects thousands of Americans every year attacks the nerve cells and ultimately leads to paralysis. There is no cure for the disease nor any treatment that reverses the disease.

Some of the famous celebs who took the challenge are George W Bush, Christiano Ronaldo, Shakira, Oprah Winfrey and Justin Bieber. In India many celebrities like Sania Mirza, Akshay Kumar, Ashwini Ponappa, Sonakshi Sinha and Bipasha Basu took the challenge.
