Fourteen personnel from the police's Mobile Brigade are assigned the task for execution but only 12 actually carry out the shooting while two are placed on standby. [Indonesia execution: Australia withdraws ambassador]
Of the 12 persons who carry out the executions, only one is equipped with a live bullet while others have empty ones. None of the executioners know who has the live bullet.
One bullet is used because it aims at minimising the pain, according to the police.
Police officers in their early 20s are generally selected to carry out the execution since they are considered physically and mentally fitter.
They are even given extra training to sharpen their shooting skills.
