General Qamar Bajwa takes charge as the new Army Chief of Pakistan

Islamabad, Nov 29: Lieutenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday took charge as the new Chief of Army Staff during the Change of Command ceremony underway at Army Hockey Stadium near General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi today.

Addressing the ceremony, General Raheel Sharif who was the chief guest thanked the Armed Forces and the Pakistani nation for their resolve and support during every step of his journey. He spent his last day in office on Monday completing a round of farewell meetings.

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif both lauded General Raheel Sharif's valuable services for the nation and wished him the best for his post-retirement life.

Speaking to the media, the outgoing Chief of Army Staff told that he would like to dedicate his post-retirement life to the welfare of the families of slain soldiers.

The appointment was made by Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif on Saturday. The PM also appointed Lt General Zubair as the Chairman of the Joint Chief of the Staff Committee.
