Militants attack army hospital in Kabul, at least 30 dead
At least 30 people including doctors and patients have been killed in an attack on a military hospital in Kabul.
Loud explosions and gunfire have been reported near a military hospital in Kabul on Wednesday, killing at least 30 people and injuring 30. Dressed as doctors, gunmen killed and wounded patients, doctors and security personnel. The gunbattle lasted almost six hours, and all attackers were killed.
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement via a verified Telegram account. The army has cordoned off the area. The explosion happened near Wazir Akbar Khan which is a diplomatic area.
Reports said that armed militants entered the compound of the Charsad Military hospital and sound of gunfire was heard. According to TOLOnews, five suicide bombers targetted the hospital, and one of them detonated his explosive near the hospital gate.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. It may be recalled that in January, at least 27 people were killed and 70 others wounded in twin blasts near parliament offices in Kabul. The blasts occurred when government employees were leaving their offices in the Dar-ul-Aman locality.
